Canyon Ski Resort Wedding | Calgary Photographer

This fall, I was fortunate enough to photograph the wedding of Jocelyn and Mac at The Canyon Ski Resort in Red Deer, AB. I had plans to take the group down a hill to the river, but it had snowed the day before and the hill was unbelievably muddy...making trekking down the hill to the river impossible. So, we did the next best thing. We hiked up the ski hill to where the fall colours were on full display. What a bunch of troopers this bridal party was!!! We even went over an electrified fence(eek!!! it was quite a shock to me!!). I love adventurous brides who are willing to chase after the sheep on the hill to get the best shots.

I never feel good about narrowing down an entire wedding gallery into one blog post...it's just so hard!! But, here are a few of my favourite shots from this lovely day.

Enjoy!

Ladybugs, Grasshoppers, and Floral Crowns

This day came along right when I needed it. A day where a handful of people who loved each other came together to celebrate that love. Elopements are always intimate, but this one was super special because the couple's five children were there. In between vows, bouquets were passed, as were toddlers. Wishes were made on rings and then repeated on the wings of a ladybug. The children caught grasshoppers while the rain stayed away just long enough for us witness the union of these two brave, strong, wonderful humans. Being welcomed into this ceremony, and this family's life, has been a wonderful gift.

A Truly Canadian Wedding | Calgary Wedding Photographer

I had the pleasure of documenting my first Hindu/Christian wedding over the Canada Day weekend this year. To me, it was the perfect way to celebrate Canada Day--seeing two cultures come together to celebrate family and love. You see the thing is, around the world, people really are mostly the same. They just want the best for their families and the ones that the love. The differences between us--these are the things we must celebrate and enjoy about each other. And, as a proud Canadian, I feel that our country does a great job of welcoming people from other countries, but, at the same time, encouraging them to maintain their heritage.

The father of the bride remarked about how his children had all married different cultures--one daughter married a Ukrainian, his son married a Vietnamese girl and now his other daughter had married an Indian. He said 'imagine the grandchildren!!!' ;) but I thought to myself how CANADIAN is this?

I want to say thank you to two lovely families who welcomed me, fed me, danced with me, and shared their amazing traditions with me. To the aunties who sat at my table....I promise to email you a link to the gallery so you can download all of the images! Here is a sneak peek...enjoy!

Up On A Mountain Top | Calgary Wedding Photographer

You know what? I absolutely LOVE small weddings. Throw in a ride up the Banff Gondola to a gorgeous mountain top ceremony and a horse drawn carriage ride around Banff for an afternoon and you have won me over. Just because their wedding was small, doesn't mean that it lacked style--no way. It had a Mad Men feel to it that helped create timeless photographs for them to enjoy.
